Almost 130 incidents of hate crime were reported to the police last year, but Minister of Justice, Knut Storberget suspects the numbers could be higher.
According to NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation) the complaints were filed by victims who believe they were targeted because of their ethnicity.Twenty six incidents were reported in Oslo.
Storberget suspects the numbers could be even higher, as many victims don’t contact the police after they’ve been assaulted. He is concerned about the high numbers.
In 2006 The Norwegian police were ordered to start investigating hate crime related incidents. The police classify hate crimes as crimes committed towards people because of their sexual orientation, religion or ethnicity.
