
The 120 year old timber framed structure suffered extensive damage after a fire started in the kitchen around 23 00 local time yesterday evening. The fire went undetected for almost two hours, and had by that stage managed to spread to other sections of the hotel via the ventilation system.
It is not yet known why the fire wasn’t detected earlier.
Personnel from the local fire department arrive on the scene after the fire alarm was set off. The flames were shooting up through the roof above the kitchen by 01 00.
The hotel’s sprinkler system was activated and it has flooded certain areas of the building. In some rooms there are more than 100 mm of water on the floor.
The 93 guests staying at the hotel have been transferred to Park Hotel at Vossevangen, according to BT.No
