Minister of Justice, Knut Storberget, releases draft for a new national prison reform

In this draft the Government is proposing that more inmates should have the opportunity to serve their sentences in low security prisons and halfway houses.

The Government is also suggesting that those serving in maximum security prisons shouldn’t have the opportunity to be released straight back into society, but rather be transferred to halfway houses. They also want to give inmates suffering drug addictions the opportunity to go to rehab, and place more convicted criminals in halfway houses, according to Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet.

Minister of Justice, Knut Storberget, told Dagbladet that prisoners convicted of murder and rape, will still have to serve in maximum security prisons.
